    Hey,

I have an XPS M1530 with Vista 32-bit. Since 2-3 days ago, whenever I turn on my laptop, the resolution is not at 1440x900 which is what I set it to. It becomes 1280x800 and I don't know why. I am going to try to reinstall the Nvidia 8600M GT Drivers but does anyone know what could possibly be causing this? It's frustrating because all the icons on my desktop get switched around because of the resolution being changed.

Edit: looks like its fixed now. I upgraded the Nvidia drivers from 185.85 to 186.81 (latest release).

Sorry for bumping yet again, but my resolution reset to 1280x800 again instead of the resolution I set it at before the shut down: 1440x900.

I upgraded my video drivers (8600M GT) to the latest ones: 186.81.

I have been having this problem since a while now. I think it was after I updated drivers at some point.

It only happens when you use a program that changes you resolution (games, mostly).

It's annoying, if you find a fix make sure to post it. Otherwise we'll have to wait for anoter upgrade.

Yeah it started happening about 4-5 days ago. I don't know what I installed prior to it starting to happen. I had the 8600M GT 185.85 drivers for the longest (months) and only upgraded to the newest release, 186.81, after this problem started to occur. You are right in that it resets the resolution after I play WoW or CS:S - however WoW is set to my desktop resolution (1440x900) so that doesn't affect it. CS:S is run at the 1280x800 widescreen which is what it resets to.

Funny thing is I left my laptop on overnight. I came on right now to check and the welcome/login screen was bigger (higher resolution). The last game I played before going to bed was CS:S so you are right in that I believe.

Do you play CS:S? It could be one of the latest steam updates, I don't know. Maybe a Windows update too, but who knows...

No, I don't play it. But I play several games and it happens with all those that run at non-native res.

Last night I was playing HL2 at my native res, and no problems this morning.

Too bad I didn't check exactly what updates I had performed when it started to happen.

This problem hasn't come back for me since updating video drivers to 195.62. You should try it.

Will do thanks. I also found out today that after the monitor turns off automatically (idle for 5 min or so), the resolution reset when I moved the mouse and it turned back on.

System Restore. If that doesn't work, then reformat.

Any updates Agusman? If it's occurred recently?

I'd really rather not reformat just for this...

    Installing 195.62 now.
