    Leading Data Recovery Software?

    What is the best application for recovering Word documents and PDF's?
    I'm not worried about the music and other media files.

    There's nothing wrong with the drive, the guy just reformatted over it.

    Also, quick format or the "thorough one".

    If it was a quick format and the drive has since not been used Recuva may (stress may, use at own risk) do the trick.
    (retrieve to another media)

    If it was a "normal thorough format" you'll possibly have to try some paid for recvovery software...

    Agreed with Detlev above. After a drive format, your best bet would be consulting a paid recovery service.
