    Hi guys,

please move my topic to more suitable forum, if needed.

As topic says, I cant get my hardware acceleration for flash player to work. I have 8400M GS gpu, sony vaio laptop, which should be supported:

    GPUs supporting Adobe Flash 10.1

But it is not, even some flash banners makes my cpu usage to extremely high so I suspect that is the case.

Is there any way to test if hardware accelerating is working, like some standalone flash player or any ideas how to fix this?

    Is your GPU supported?

It should be, according to nvidia information page (above) saying 8400M GS is supported.

I tested with youtube 1080p video and there is no difference betwin cpu usage with hardware acc. ON or OFF.

I also have the latest drivers from nvidia. Maybe the problem is that my laptop have a dual gpu system, intel 945GM and nvidia 8400M and sony somehow screwed things up with the nvidia card or disabled some of its features?

Is Aero on? It needs to be on for some accelerations to work.

It was off! It seems there is some effect on the cpu usage while playin 1080p youtube video, thou I am not yet sure.

Would anybody be so kind and do the following:

Open: YouTube - The Dark Knight HD 1080p Trailer
right click somewhere on the video and select Show video info
Paste the last line within this info box that pops over the video.

It says software video rendering for me, which means no hawrdware acceleration, right?

Yea, I was right. Tested on my desktop machine that have 8500GT card and video info said "accelerated video rendering".

Still, it does not work with my laptop...thou Aero is on.

anybody else here with 8400M GS GPU ?

Shows "accelerated video rendering" for anything up to and including 1080p. Anything higher than 1080p can't be GPU accelerated.

I have a 9600M GT (137MB/256MB used if I have the 1080p video being GPU accelerated), but it uses the same chip for video acceleration that the 8400M GS uses.

My laptop (also?) has switchable graphics - Intel 4500MHD and 9600M GT.

What Forceware driver is your computer running? I believe you need at least Forceware 195.xx or newer.

I have a Vaio FZ with 8400M GT and the video info shows "accelerated video rendering" for 1080p, but "software rendering" for the original.

I am using the latest 267.24 beta modded driver.

coolguy, where can I get the 267.24 beta modded driver?

namaiki, can you tell me which drivers are you using?

Do you both have windows 7 64bit and 32 bit IE9?

I modded the 267.24 driver myself, and running Win 7 64-bit, FF 3.6.

Not all flash videos you find in the web are hardware accelerated. You can check the video engine load in GPU-Z. If the video is hardware accelerated, the load should more than 0%.

Have you tried removing flash player using the uninstaller and reinstalling it? Just in case some setting is retained, messed up?

    Yea, tried that.

Is it working for you, because I see you have almost the same notebook as me. I have VAIO SZ61XN model.

-> I never use the NVidia GPU - I use the Intel one, and honestly, for myself I don't care at all.

I suppose I can try if you want me to?

That would be awesome, because flash HXVA is the only reason I am using nvidia gpu, otherwise I would stay at intel because battery lasts much longer.

So if its not too much trouble, plese do check it out, its been eating my nerves for the last couple of days.

OK, I tried a 720p video on Youtube and my CPU usage bounces around... -> for some reason I also lost access to the settings for flash??????????

On the driver side... I think this is 101.28 , but I really have no idea... it should be the Sony stuff that came with the Vaio originally.

And this screen blinds me... (uncallibrated....)

Setting is disabled within youtube, you can bring it up here:

    Adobe - Flash Player

Click with right mouse somewhere on the youtube video and select view video info. There will be info about acceleration, or not..

I actually got it once - at the very first time.

The box for acceleration was ticked... so it should have run on the GPU...
