I've been shopping around, and it seems that Vista is being forced on people. The only laptop I've found in my price range with XP is the Vostro (not that it's a bad machine, but I'm still looking around). I'm looking for a laptop under $1000 CAD, maybe a little more than that if necessary, for productivity (no gaming). Anyone know any laptops offered with XP in this price range?

I don't feel like going to all of the laptop manufacturer websites, so the only thing I can recommend is buying a refurbished or used notebook. For example, you can go to the Dell Outlet and pick from quite a few laptops that have XP.

    A few HP business models (6710b ~ $1,100 USD)

HP also has AMD powered equals to most of their laptops. So if ultimate performance isn't an issue, and you want to save some cash, check out some more of their business models. I'm not sure if the pre-configured models ship with XP though. Might have to configure yourself if possible.

I bought a Inspiron 1501 3 weeks ago, and it has all the drivers on the site for xp, installed without a problem.

Configure your own system on any of the major manufactures' business notebooks and you should get an XP option. Lenovo R61i's with the older Core 2 Duo processors (T52xx series) should keep you within your budget if you don't want to play the Dell refurb lottery.

You can also go for a Vostro 1500 with XP.

    600 bucks without tax.

    I think it's a great deal

I'm torn between the Thinkpad R61 and the Vostro 1500. I really like what I'm hearing about the Thinkpad (durability and battery life), but it's a tad more expensive (about $300 more). Is it worth the extra money, because right now I'm kind of leaning towards Lenovo.
