    Hi People,

I was just wondering if there are any known add-on's for firefox, that considerably slows down firefox (particularly start up!!). The reason is because FF has been really fast for me ever since I was using it, and even after I updated to the latest release (3.6). But during the last few days, I was getting in quiet a few add-on's, and uninstalled some of them after trying, but now firefox is starting up much slower (the initial start up as soon as I turn on my laptop). But once started, when I close and open it again, it start' up fast as before. Does anyone think this could be due to some specific add-on's or something happened when I was trying out some extension's?

At the moment I have the following add-on's / extension's:

Adblock Plus, BetterPrivacy, British English Dictionary, ColorfulTabs, Download Statusbar, DownThemAll, Gmail Manager, Gmail Space (not compatible with 3.6, so currently disabled, as is Google Gears), Google Shortcuts, Integrated Gmail, MultirowBookmarksToolbar, Norton IPS (not compatible with 3.6), Norton Toolbar, NoScript, PlacesCleaner, Quick Locale Switcher, Session Manager, Tab Mix Plus, US English Dictionary and Yet Another Smooth Scrolling.

Among these, are there any that could be acting up now? Also, I don't remember what extension's I was trying out recently which I ended up uninstalling because either they weren't really useful to me or I just didn't like them. One of them was FastestFox, weatherbug (or something similar, don't remember the name exactly)...

    Many thanks.

PS., it's only firefox and chrome that is showing this sudden slow down of the start up! :( Other applications like office or acrobat or similar are starting up fast and without any delays, as usual.

    Cheers.

Adblock Plus can slow it down quite a lot - I was talking to Dave about it, and he found that out.

Remove it fully and see if it speeds up a fair bit - also use a short blocking list.

Else... evervy add-on will contribute a bit...

    Thanks DetlevCM.

Tried taking out Adblock Plus, but didn't make any difference. Then I thought of trying to remove Gmail Manager fully (installed Adblock Plus back) and now it's starting up fast as before.. almost immediately after clicking.

Well, Gmail manager?!!! Hmm.. I've been using for quiet some time now, but didn't notice any difference till the last couple of days. But, I have to mention, I did add more Gmail accounts though! May be I will try re-installing Gmail manager and try with just one account set to auto-login. Let me check.

Well, its quite possible that additional accounts influence that.

Adblock Plus causes different startup degradation depending on the filter/block list size.

Alright, yes, I think it is Gmail manager the culprit.. Well, guess I have to figure out if it' got anything to do with the internet connection at home because sometimes it get' very slow and I wonder if Gmail is taking up resources to fight for the login when the internet is slow/almost down. Let me check on that.

I just figured out that a combination of Gmail Manager and webmail notifier kind of works well without slowing down start up of firefox. I mean, I don't know if this some kind of real thing or just my illusion but having one (my main) Gmail account to be logged in automatically upon start up (through Gmail Manager), and having the other's as part of the webmail notifier extension looks fine, and shows no effect on firefox speed on start up or during continuous usage.

    Good to hear :)

If you really want to find out... use a stop watch.

Different lists in Adblock plus can affect statup time by 1s-0,5s (on an Intel SSD)

I use gmail manager and when I installed it like 2 months ago I did not notice any slowdown with firefox. Now it is only tied to 1 account, so maybe that's why mine runs so well. I think there are a few different gmail notifiers that you can get besides gmail manager for firefox, so you might want to look into that as well.

It's more of the fact that it's only the initial firefox startup that was delayed - I mean the first time I start firefox after turning on the laptop. It was like FF was taking time (most probably the Gmail manager taking time in loggin in to all the accounts!!!).. I could be wrong on this though. Anyway, with 1 account now, and with the other' in webmail notifier, it is all fine and good with no delays.

(PS., not that the delay in starting firefox was bothering me neither am I in any hurry in my life, but was just wondering if it was just an addon or something else deeper in the system that was slowing down things, and wanted to nail it just in case it was something big, lurking below...)
