    Hi all.

I recently acquired a Gateway P5WS6 with a mostly non-functional keyboard and a blank hard drive. I had been hoping to install Windows 7 64 bit on the computer, using a USB keyboard. The USB keyboard worked perfectly on the BIOS screen, but when I booted into the install disk, a command prompt appeared rather than the GUI, in a window on the normal background of the disk. When typed in, the command prompt would display the letter like "^G", some keys not working or working differently than intended (h acted as backspace while c was enter). If you were to execute these strings (^G^N^W), it would inform you that seemingly random ASCII symbols was not a command. I ended up installing Linux Mint, which is what I'm currently using, and the keyboard worked correctly.

I was wondering if there was an explanation for what happened and possibly a solution, as I would like to use Windows due to its gaming capabilities.

    Thanks in advance.
