Hi, my computer keeps restarting at very strange times. I suspected that it got some sort of virus, so I tried accessing the msconfig to alter some configurations and it won't let me and restarts instead. And when I try to download a free trial of microsoft onecare so that I can scan my computer, it won't let me and restarts instead. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? If not, I'll most likely reformat my computer. I don't know if this is an issue, but I am running Vista Home Premium, and haven't had any problems until this week.

Another problem with my computer is that it keeps making shortcut folders for "my documents" so whenever I go into "my documents" there's another folder called "documents" that goes into "my documents" when I access it. The strange thing is that this "documents" folder is not a shorcut file but an .exe and everytime I delete it, it just makes another one.

I hope that I gave enough information, hopefully there's some sort of solution.

Try to run an online scan. Here's NOD32. I'm not sure how well it will work but I have the installed version and have never had a problem.

If that doesn't work you may try system restore.

Sounds like a power supply problem.

You could try running a scan in Safe Mode if you can get in it.

yes definitely sounds like a virus. if you have your stuff backed up then just go ahead and reformat. even if you do kill the viruses you probably dont know what damages it has done.
