I know there's one available for Vista SP1. I have no plans on reverting back to SP2 and would like to delete SP3 from my HDD if at all possible. :)

Do you want to uninstall SP3 or just remove the install file?

    To uninstall:

Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Windows XP Service Pack 3 > Remove

I don't recall there being anything to delete once SP3 had installed, but I could be wrong about that.

I think that he's looking to get rid of all of the installation files and backups and whatnot that were created when he installed SP3, since he also says that he has no plans on reverting to SP2 - at least that's the way I read his post, although reasonable minds could certainly differ on its meaning. :)

TuneUP utilities is one of the programs capable of doing such a thing if I'm not mistaken.

Before you do that, have you made sure your computer works with everything? I had to go back to SP2 a few weeks after installing SP3 when I found out my digital camera couldn't connect anymore. Works fine again after reverting to SP2.

I did but there wasn't an option I saw to remove the backup files. I did download TuneUp Utilities 2008 and it did the trick. It got rid of 1.04GB of backup files including the SP3 installer.

TuneUp Utilities 2008 came with a 30 day trail which unlocks the program. :)

I use TuneUP myself instead of the regular windows tools as it's far better cleaning up the garbage.

We're not talking about uninstalling SP3, just removing the uninstaller and backup files it creates on your hard drive. ;) :)

This is a pretty funny thread to an old mainframe systems programmer.

Way back in the 1970's (perhaps even the 1960's - I first saw SMP3 in the mid '70s and there was a 4 and a 5 before E), there was SMP (current is SMP/E - System Modification Program - Extended) for maintaining the operating system. It had (has) several basic functions that act upon Distribution and Target libraries (Zones):
    • RECEIVE - Brings new modules into Distribution for subsequent processing
    • REJECT - Backs out a RECEIVE function
    • APPLY - Applies selected changes from the Distribution onto the Target
    • RESTORE - Backs out an APPLY function
    • ACCEPT - Establishes a new baseline in the Target making that the new starting point for the next cycle of maintenance

I'm definitely not anti-Vista, but Vista is no cleaned up XP. That's for sure. :p
