Is the newest free version of CCleaner from the main page to Piriform without bloatware or should I download other places? Thanks.

I have been using the free for years, no problems, but always keep your eye out for bloatware and untick them when you install free apps.

Turn off the monitoring in the settings, if you dont want it running in the background.

Been downloading portable versions since... forever. That is basic rule for all kind of free software: always use portable if developer gives you a choice.

I usually scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the "Builds" link, and then download the CCleaner - Slim version. There's no toolbar included.

Portable only, here as well. No installation, nothing runs until you actually run it and on one website (not cc) the developer actually says that installer version has advertising in it, but not portable version. The only problem is, some "genius" came up with ".paf" installer for portable, non instalable software, some things I'll never understand.

Thanks. Found it. I chose the slim version (no toolbar) and not the portable (most likely with bloatware). Or is the portable version also witout toolbar?

I didn't have an issue with it either.

One quick trick when installing software that you might think has bloat in it is to use the "custom installation" option. Usually it'll give you the option to take out bloatware prior to installation.

There gonna be same shock in PC Software ecology when somebody starts injecting bloatware in portable version as when financial crysis of 2008 was.

Been using CCleaner for years, good little tool for freeing up diskspace - and especially useful for finding duplicate files - such as tidying up photo albums etc from having the same pictures in multiple locations. Never had a problem with bloatware etc, and I always DL it from Piriform.

That's not going to be as easy as with installers: you would have to program bloatware directly into main executable, as opposed to adding separate files into installer. Also some of the portable software comes with the source code, which you can look at and compile yourself if you want to. And don't forget, you can copy files to memory stick, test it on some back up computer and then use the same stick to run on your work computer after you verify it's OK , not foolproof, nothing is, but more secure, than blindly click the install button and wonder what and where is it installing. I won't even go into the fact that some programs don't uninstall properly and always leave files, folders and reg entries behind. I have folders left on my computer from programs I uninstalled years ago.

I use DuplicateFilesDeleter to remove my PC's duplicate file. It works well. I like it.
