I'm currently running Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 64-bit and has been very successful so far. It gave the highest system rating of 5.9!

I'm happy with Windows Vista but is it worth upgrading?

    Is gaming and performance better?

Wishing to hear from all of you soon ... Thanks

Gaming performance is more or less the same between Vista and Windows 7 with minor differences(better and worse) depending on the game, but these are negligible.

Overall, if you can manage to get an upgrade for cheap(or free if you meet certain student conditions and blah blah), then I'd say get it. If not, you're not really missing out on huge things either IMO. If you're happy with Vista, stick with it and get Windows 7 either when it gets cheaper, or get it the next time you buy a new laptop.

What are you looking to improve over what you have now? I have read a lot of posts on Windows 7 and played with it briefly. It is good, I like it, but I don't think you will see a huge change over Vista, if that is what you are looking for. Win 7 definitely feels snappier and seems to respond better but I don't think over all it is much different than Vista. A new version of direct X 11 is supposed to be released for Win7(not sure if it is for Vista) and it is supposed to makes games look great, something about better texturing of graphics. I would say if you were getting a new PC or coming from Xp then I would say definitely go for Win 7, but if you have vista(you seem to have a really high end version) and are happy with it, I would just keep it. Save your money.

Direct X 11 would be a moot argument anyways as no current mobile GPU is Dx11 capable as far as I know. The 3xx series from nvidia and the HD5xxx series from ATI are supposed to be the first GPUs which fully support Dx11 I think.

when you play with 7, you'll definitely notice that its a polished OS. I guess its like a major service pack to vista in a way. For the $30 student price i paid, its definitely worth it. For full retail price? i dont think so. www.anandtech.com and notebook review both have articles on how 7 performs vs vista and xp. read up on them and make ur decision

I would not upgrade from Vista for "gaming" purposes or even UI tweaks. There is no real fundamental difference. If you are buying a new machine or upgrading from XP then yes.
