Apparently it also uses a newer version of Webkit, and I read a few comments from people who used it that say it seems faster!

I actually haven't tried this yet since I don't care that my search data gets sent to Google. Where did you hear that its using a newer version of WebKit?

Downloaded, looked just like chrome obviously. However i experienced some very slow maximizing/minimizing of any windows i had open while iron was running. Didn't have this problem when i had chrome installed.

How? Remember Google Chrome is OPEN SOURCE. They took their source and edited it.

Sure, if you care about privacy but like Chrome's features, this is the browser for you. But I thought you didn't like Chrome for various reasons, this is essentially it...

    Check this out though, "UnChrome"
    http://www.abelssoft.net/unchrome.php

"Regarding to Google, "Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier". Unfortunately, each Google Chrome installation contains a unique ID that allowing identifying its user. Google doesn't make it an easy job to remove this ID.

UnChrome helps you with this task. It replaces your unique ID with Null values so that your browser cannot be identified any longer. The functionality of Google Chrome is not influenced by this. You only need to apply UnChrome once.

If Google Chrome is started now then please close it. Afterwards, please click on the link below to anonymize your Chrome installation."

    Iron does this:
    No unique user-ID
No user-specific information is sent to Google
    No alternative error messages
Crash information is not sent to Google
    No Google updater

    UnChrome only does this:
    No unique user-ID

However, if there isn't a user-ID then the other stuff listed under Iron shouldn't be there in UnChrome. They both look like they essentially do the same thing.

I haven't tried Iron so I don't know why that works...Can you go to the "About" screen in Iron and check the version?

i also used the standalone installer for chrome since i dont want the google updater crap.. the stand alone doesnt add the updater but i figure you know that

Lol. That's an even later version that my Dev. release of Chrome. So it looks like they do update it or just number it wildly. Chrome is open-source, so it's likely they made some changes like the mouse scroll wheel and etc.

EDIT: Yeah, I made a thread about the standalone version. However I found out how to get rid of "GoogleUpdate.exe" permanently but can still update Chrome. Delete it from startup in msconfig and in Task Scheduler. Standalone version doesn't include a good feature of Chrome, "Google Gears", thus the reason for me not to use the standalone version.

id actually like to use chrome just because i know it will remain supported down the line but it will have to work like this does..where is the most current full version of chrome i can get? i dont want the downloader installer i want the actual full exe so it does not include the updater that runs at startup?? thank you again

here is the downloads page with the changelog on it for you:
    http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron_news.php

also what exactly is google gears?

i just checked on the web site for it and it says i have gears installed already so it must be in the iron version

and when i remove the updater from startup even manually from the registry it always somehow comes back after a few reboots???

LOL WOW. They made a adblock.ini...they sure are working on it and improving it...so it seems by these features and workability that this is more advanced than Chrome. Google needs to step there game up. I wonder how trustworthy and reliable SRWARE products are...only reason holding me back atm(no I'm not racist toward Germans).

EDIT: Double wow, they ARE using the latest webkit...so it's faster.

I just tried importing my bookmars and it locked up on me with 99 CPU. Not a very good first impression. I'll tinker with Iron tomorrow.
I need to figure out where to insert that adblock.ini as well

Quick little test, it is faster as far as rendering high image pages, I'm just hesitant to use it primarily as much as I use Chrome as far as for email and other sites where I have a login and password...As far as support goes, I'm sure they will update it often, they have been so far.

why are you hesitant about the login's? do you think there could be a issue with them? should i be worried about my info?? more of a trust thing?? but this is so fast compared to ff3.... wow

also dod deleting the updater actually work for you? for some reason after 3-5 boot ups i noticed it had come back again for me when i had it is that normal

Not nightly builds a la Minefield, but every few days, it's random. You might see some back to back days or a week. Only been one update since the BETA title's been slashed.

well i def disabled the start up updater but even still when i checked i saw the program had auto updated anyway and i even saw the process running a few times. if the updater is disabled it should be running. except my av i update my programs and vista myself i dont let anything auto install or update at all..guess i would have to block it then simply with the firewall. just deny the update.exe acess to the net

Delete the scheduled task in Task Scheduler.

Iron uses more cpu and ram than Chrome. Iron can set profiles though...but I'm the only one on this machine so that doesn't help me.
