I mainly use firefox, but I am wondering why my internet explorer takes almost 5 minutes to initiate? OS: 64bit vista.

spware? virus? There's no real reason for IE to be THAT slow.
-
Try going through your add-ons and disabling/deleting the unnecessary ones. I remember I had a security/fingerprint add-on that caused my IE to take 30 seconds to open.
-
Try this:
1. Go to Tools > Internet Options > "Connections" tab
2. Click "LAN Settings", and then uncheck the box that says "Automatically detect my proxy settings".
Hope this helps. -
and if you have 3rd party "tool bars". They really slow it down. Disable them in tools> manage add-ons> enable or disable add-ons.
-
recently, this thing happens to me too... If I found out why I'll post later.
-
Disable Pop-Up Blocker, Phishing Filter, delete Browsing History and decrease the disk space allocated for the TIFs.
Or reinstall IE/Reset IE Settings. -
I don't have any 3rd party tool bar and spyware. my interenet explorer barely responds in first 5 minutes. everytime I have to close it via task manager.

Try Right-Clicking on your Internet Explorer icon on the desktop and selecting the option "Run without Addons" or something along those lines (I don't have my vista machine on me right now.) It will pretty much force a vanilla Internet explorer to run. If you don't see that option on the right click menu, you should be able to see it on the IE icon on the taskbar.

hey guys I just found out that there are 2 versions of IE on my system, 32bit and 64bit. I've been using the 32bit version the whole time and now the 64bit version is working flawlessly. are there any difference between them?
