There's pretty much only 1 way to go about it.

    1. Right Click IE icon on Desktop -> Properties (you can also click on Tools -> Internet Options while IE running)
    2. Click on Clear History button
    3. Content Tab -> AutoComplete button
    4. Click Clear Forms
    5. Clear Passwords

You can also clear the Cookies & Temp files by clicking on Delete Cookies & Delete Files.

Another way to delete the History, Cookies & Temp Files, would be to do it manually. Doing it manually would not eliminate the problem your currently having. The main things to fix that, would be to perform set 4. This is what removes all the "history" from the list when you type an address. Or, you can just disable this feature completely.

    1. Repeat Steps 1 & 3 from above
    2. Uncheck all the boxes listed

This will diable the feature so it will not popup with previously visited sites. But if you do use this option, it'll be disabled and you'd have to re-enable it, but then you will get the exact same issue you have now. Just do steps 1-5 from above and you'll be fine.

If its really annoying to you, then you should try another browser or add a toolbar such as Google's and turn off the drop down history. Hope this helps!

Did you try doing it with the browser closed? That may help. If not, then that's really weird. It's the exact same thing I do and it gets rid of it for me. The only other option would be to disable the AutoComplete feature. Just do the 2nd part of my instructions and it'll disable the feature. It should no longer display anything after that. You may get the occasional popup asking you if you want to re-enable, just click no.
