i just installed Intel PROSet/Wireless 15.1.1 software and driver on my VAIO SA (Intel Advanced-N 6205 wireless card), and have noticed that the tray icon associated with it doesn't do anything once i left-click or right-click on it. before updating the software/drivers, it used to bring up a menu from which i could select, for example, to turn the wireless on or off, etc. below is the icon i'm referring to:
    IntelTaskTray.png

it's related to the process iFrmewrk.exe (runs with /tf Intel Wireless Tray argument according to the Task Manager). ending that process, kills that icon. now that it doesn't do anything, i'm wondering what purpose it serves!

does anybody use this version of the software and has seen this behavior?

Sorry to ask, I would like to help you and this is not meant to be somehow a negative post, but do you really need Intel PROset drivers and wireless client? I don't have 6205 but I bet that it works just fine with some generic Windows drivers (Intel drivers through Windows driver update service) and default Windows wireless client. Much less resources for 99% of functions. I base my assumptions on experience with older Intel cards and Proset driver packages. I know there are some advanced settings but despite many arguments I heard I never actually got the idea behind Proset client. It is supposed to make things easier and nicer, but I usually got only issues and problems with it. Some of problems were icons that didn't work or were slow in response. I simply never ever install Proset and all Intel cards I had (4 models) simply work when Windows is installed. I used it on XP, but since Vista I totally ignore Intel Proset and all Intels just work for me.

The tray icon is a waste. I removed the Software and driver and went to the intel site and downloaded just the driver version.

@ikovac and @tonyr6: the reason why i asked this was because i was thinking of uninstalling the client software, especially since it does not seem to be doing anything even when i'm clicking on it! i'm perfectly happy with just the drivers, and they're working just fine.

thank you both. i just needed a small push (which you've provided) to uninstall that useless software, given my OCD with extra bloatware on my machines. :)
