So yesterday I went on liveupdate 6 to download new drivers, cause i updated a bunch and i saw Intel extreme tuning utility, Intel ME driver, Intel INF update, and one of these downloaded the management engine, installed some other thing, then it told me to restart, i did and when i got back on the net was gone, i couldnt fix it with restarting ruter, or anything so i had to set the pc back a couple of days before i updated, and now im scared of using liveupdate6 again because idk what will happen. So i wonder, what does these drivers do to my system, is it any important? I read somewhere here that i didnt need it if i wasnt using some corporate network i wouldnt need them, any help here?

Some motherboards have support for AMT, which is Intel's 'out of bounds' connectivity tool. It's like a separate mini-processor that can allow you to access the machine if the OS fails or something else that makes it not able to start up the usual way. It can be used to, say, power cycle a crashed server remotely. The Management Engine is a part of this.

Your typical desktop computer at home has little use for this, and it's typically (not always) disabled anyway, the user needs to explicitly turn it on in BIOS. There's also additional setup for getting it onto the network.

So Im not going to care about those updates, but just drop them and update everything else, like the killernetwork drivers? (example used: Killernetwork drivers)

I like to have a clean Device Manager, so I install everything I can find drivers for.

I'm OCD that way too. And if there's a request for drivers there's likely a good reason to have a proper driver installed even if it just uses a portion of it.

For those with OCD, which you can count me in. :hi2:

Instead of installing the driver from the motherboard mfg, just install the driver file from Windows Update which is usually smaller than 1MB and just satisfies device mgr.

But that brings me back to intel management engine, should i always just install all of the drivers? If i did that i would probably lose internet as last time, and i searched up the live update 6, and it said stuff about flashing bios, being very careful, and i dont wanna do that unless its something i need, so what i want answer on really is

Do i install all of the on live update 6 ill probably not update norton thingy since i dont use it, but anyways everything else?

The INF driver is mandatory as that's for your Chipset. The Intel ME driver, you can either do as my previous suggestion or if you install the ME driver, don't connect to the internet. When it goes out starting to search, at that point you can quit/exit the program. It won't bother you again.

To install ME from windows update, i dont have to do anything else than click update as normal? Just wondering cause it could be usefull, like just now windows updates wants me to click update, when i click there, if there is any ME updates, if i choose to install every update, will get updated as easy as that?

But if i use Livee update 6, im gonna close every internet connection, then install the ME, and when it starts to search ill just close it, and ill still have net + the problem solved?

If you don't install the ME drivers from the motherboard mfg on a clean OS install, when you go to Windows Update, ME will be listed in the drivers section. Usually the file is anywhere between 64K-800K. All it does is to satisfy device mgr.

Live update 6 by MSI, Tijo.

Windows update sounds so much easier, but whats the best do YOU think?

And where do i find the drivers section in Windows update? Looked through it now and didnt find it so :p

You just 'run Windows Update'. You don't find a drivers section.

Well, thanks guys you have all been a great help, cant really thank you enough cause the it freaked me out, but the last question is then, when i use windows update to download the driver and nothing more, the update will still be stuck at ''current version'' in live update 6?

Also i just installed ME on liveupdate 6 and when it was done and this license thing popped up called: Intel manage ability firmware Recovery agent i quit it and didnt agree the license, am i suppose to accept that license and then quit it?
