EDIT: Oops, wrong forum. Sorry! Mods please move if it's not too much trouble.

I have a desktop monitor (15", 1024x768) which is currently redundant of use. When I connect it to my laptop (Dell Inspiron 640m, 1440x900) via VGA, there doesn't seem to be a way I can stretch the screen over both monitors. What happens is my laptop resizes the resolution to 1024x768 and displays the same as the external monitor.

    1) Can I stretch the screen over to my desktop monitor with Intel's GMA 950 graphics?

    2) If not, can I have both screens display the same thing, but have my laptop running at 1440x900 and the external monitor running at 1024x768?

    Thankies. :)

I'm pretty sure you can extend it over and have 2 different resolutions, I would try it again if I were on my laptop now. I'm not positive on this but if you want both screens to display the same thing, then your laptop's screen would be 1440x900, and your external would also be 1440x900, but when you move the mouse the screen would move around to accomodate the resolution and make it look right.

should be an option in display properties - click on "2" monitor, check "used as extended monitor"

after u set the resolution on the "2" monitor, UN.check the "used as extended monitor".
Back to "1", now u should be able to have 2 different resolutions on the internal and the external.
remember to set the "2" resolution only with the "used as extended monitor" checked BEFORE Un.check it

    cheers ...
