My A4D only comes with XPH (Win XP-Home), and I'd like to install Pro but it blue-screens with an odd message about device que not found or something (sorry, I didn't write it down) when 'installing devices'.

Asus are no help since the laptop wasn't shipped with Pro. Could this have something to do with the Athlon 64's NX features? Every time I tried to do something serious like run Matlab it would blue screen with an error about attempts to execute code in dataspace. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to stick to Home if nothing works, not the end of the world.

    Cheers!

I just bought an a4d also (actually z81k) and i have had nothing but problems with it. i was running win2k sp4 but it was HIGHLY unstable and i have now had to return it. the vendor told me that one of his other customers could not even install xpp sp1 and had to install xp sp2. i had problems when i was running my gis suite (arcmap, arccatalog, arcview) and also when i was doing other things as well, like accessing the start menu. it was weird. asus had no idea what was going on with it. hopefully my new one will work better. you might want to try the xp-64 os. i have heard nothing about it but you can get it in the beta/trial release from microsoft.

Mine has behaved itself pretty well, since reinstalling XPH it nolonger blue-screens (I think the previous owner had installed sp2 which apparently causes the NX problems).

Hope you have better luck with your next one, mine's a great machine, even if it has one stuck pixel in the top left corner and weighs a tonne :p

I don't think running XP64 would solve any stability issues, being in beta and all... Might try it just to see what improvements it offers though.
