I haven't tried it yet, but can this laptop run a 32bit version of Windows 7? The current home premium 64bit came pre installed with all the junk software. It's not possible to do a clean install with the recovery partition or back partition dvds. The junk installs with OS. So I have Windows 7 pro 32bit that isn't being used on anything and would like to install only the 32bit version and do away with the 64bit recovery partition since i have it on the dvds. It has a AMD Phenom X4 N970 2.2Hz quad core, 4 gb DDR 3 memory. Is this possible with the setup disc? Can't get much help from Acer support. Thanks for any advice.

Do you have a license for Pro? If not you'll only get Home Premium. There's a thread around here that tells you where to download W7 Home Premium, 32 or 64 bit.

Yes, the Windows 7 Pro 32bit has it's own key and setup disc. I just wasn't sure if a 32bit would even run on this laptop since it came with the 64bit version. But yeah my win pro is all good as far as legal and installing it. Also I'm sure I would get a error during the install if my processor or drivers won't work right? Not sure. Thought i'd get some advice first. Thanks

With the 32 Bit version, you can't use the 4 GB RAM completely, only about 3 GB.
Normally the product keys work for both Windows 7 versions, 32 Bit and 64 Bit.
At first, I would download the Windows 7 Prof 64 Bit version and try to activate it with the product key of the 32 Bit version you have.
If your Acer 7551 came with Windows 7 preinstalled, you can also use ABRBETA to save and restore the activation after the new install.
In this case you have to download the Windows 7 Home Premium version.
