    Stupid question...

I wanna format my primary partition (currently has XP on it) and install Vista. The only thing stopping me is the fear that all my data on the logical D: partition will somehow disappear, I know it shouldn't.

Someone reassure me it'll be safe and I'll reboot and start setup immediately. I'm getting antsy and can't wait till payday to grab an external HD to backup my data :p

Burn your data to CD or DVD first, maybe. But Vista will honor your existing partitions. When it is about to install, it will ask you where you want it to do so. At that point you should see your C and D partitions. If not, I'd cancel the install and make sure I had an EXTERNAL backup of the D partition. If you see both partitions, as I am relatively certain you will, just tell Vista to install to C and proceed.
