    Hi,
I bought MS office from a work program for $20. One the back it says I can use one copy of this software on one device in my home. However, I have two computers in my home I want to install it on. Will the product key/license number actually only work once, or can I do it on two computers?

You can only instal it on one PC at a time unless you purchase another license

I thought the Office license was valid for all computers in your home? I could be wrong, though.

There is no hard and fast rule....it depends on what version of Office you have. I've seen some that say 'one device' and others say 'one device and one portable device', thus two devices total. If yours says 'one device' on the box then that is the license you purchased and so legally that is all you can do with it. If you can get another copy for $20 from work, that would be one option.

BTW for anyone in school that wants office, you can get Office Ultimate 2007 for $60 here.....offer is good through the end of April.

I own Office 2007 Professional but am sorely tempted to buy this just to get another license and also OneNote which I hear is pretty damn awesome.

You have purchased the software with a single license. Hence it can be installed on one PC only.

The Microsoft way is that you can install as it with one license as many times as you want ON THE SAME PC. If you want to install it on a second PC, you need a second license. (Same with Windows)

It sucks but it's how they work... wich contributes to the reason why a lot of people don't bother paying for Office anymore.

Depending on your license, you may install it onto two computers actually. My retail version allows me to install one copy on a primary computer (desktop/laptop) and another copy on a portable computer (laptop). The only restriction is that you cannot install it on two desktops. So maybe you should read the EULA more carefully =)

Office 2007 Home and Student allows for installation on up to 3 computers at the same time with a single license key.

I have MS Office 2003 student and teacher edition (3 users). I believe when you activate a copy, it gets tied down to your windows serial key so microsoft knows which computer its been installed on

For OEM is supposed to be on one. For retail version I believe up to 3 or until it tells you it activated to many times. You're only supposed to operate on one machine so if you installed it on two machines, only one can be on and not both at the same time but I don't know how can MS know you have two machines on at one time!

Sounds like you have the exact same version I have. You can only install the home use program version on one computer at a time. If you want more than one copy of Office, just buy the older versions offered through the program. I have Office XP, 2003, and 2007; since MS released a "fix" that allows all previous versions to read/write 2007 file formats, everything works in perfect harmony.
