    Hello, this relates to the bloatware removal guide in the dell forum but since my problem is with vista i think it's worth posting here.

    I just tried the bloatware removal guide on my new dell Vostro 1700.

    Everything went find until i reinstalled windows vista ultimate. during the installation process and after the first reboot the installation seems to hang.

    It says 'Completing the installation' although it seems to be working '...' gradually appear indicating it is still working. It has been on this process for 45 minutes with no change in the installation progress bar at the bottom of the screen.

    Does anyone have any idea what is causing this and how i can fix it?

    So far i have followed these instructions and everything was going as expected until this.

    # Place MediaDirect 3.3 in drive;
    # Restart/Hit F12 at initial screen/One time boot/Boot Dvd;
    # Follow instructions to change your partitions. This will delete everything. (Note, I got my system to accept two partitions which are the 3Gb MediaDirect partition and the main partition but sometimes you will have no choice but to go with 3;
    # When it says, remove MD3 disk and replace with your Vista disk;
    # Restart/hit F12 at initial screen/one time boot/Boot DVD;
    # When "press any key when ready" comes up make sure you press this right away. On mine, if you dont in the first few seconds there will be no reaction;
    # Follow the instructions/select complete install and select correct partition to install it on;
    # On completion and windows is running, reinsert MediaDirect 3;

    Now windows has not fully installed yet and after trying twice i am a bit worried.

    Any help is gratefully appreciated.

    well, i appear to have sorted the problem out myself, i had to install the AHCI driver during the installation.

    No need for thread now...
