Well, is it possible to install XP on a USB drive if the computer supports booting from the USB? It's a 2GB SanDisk. I tried installing XP pro without any hacks or tweaks, but it says it can't and gave me various error messages (which I can't recall at the moment).

Are you certain your computer supports booting off USB? On my Mac, I can boot into Windows using my external USB HD. Of course, listing the error messages would be very helpful. Also, I believe that XP with SP2 is very close to the size of 2GB. You might have run out of disk space. And, do not forget that USB is very slow when it comes to external memory.

Well, since the bios said it support USB zip drives and USB FFDs, I assumed it support usb drives too.

Umm, booting off a recovery disk connected via USB is totally different from booting into Microsoft Windows off USB. Windows tends to disconnect all USB devices during boot, so unless your BIOS or EFI has special support, Windows will disconnect from your boot drive and crash.
