Hello. Does anyone here using vista have their hard drive indexing disabled? I recently did it and I found out that in the start menu search bar, it was able to find files like: pictures, and folders that it wasn't able to find when index was on. Also by going to 'services', and disabling windows search, will it cause any program to have issues?

I disabled indexing. unnecessary system usage. Services can always be easily restored its not like an uninstall so if you find it interferes then just re-enable it.

What exactly does indexing do? I just right clicked for properties of my Local Disk ( C: ) and unchecked the box to index for faster searching.

It's pretty much a myth that indexing sucks up resources. It only needs to update the index whenever you modify any type of file that is within the scope of your index (by default, a selection of file extensions located in Offline Files, your Start Menu, and under all Users), and it only reads the index whenever you specifically do a search. The rest of the time nothing's going on and thus no resources are being used.
That having been said, I prefer Copernic Desktop Search 2 over the built-in indexing system. I find it gives me more useable results and more control over what I want to find. Vista's search is far better than in any previous version of Windows though. -

Not true, it can have a decent hit on performance depending on how much you do. It keeps tabs basically on where files are and if they are modified and where they are moved to so when you go to search it can quickly. But then again it also depends on how active you are in modifying those files as well as the index itself. If they index gets too large then it doesn't function as well. But yes it does use up some of your system resources.
