    IM Issues

    I've been having problems with multiple IM programs for quite some time now, and since my latest issues, I am now left with no IM. Hopefully you guys can help me out.

    First, AIM. About 8 months ago out of nowhere, I suddenly can't sign in. I get a "Connection Lost" error every time. I was never able to fix it, and eventually ended up with Yahoo Messenger. It was working fine until now, for some reason I don't appear online to my brother and he doesn't appear online to me. I switched to an earlier version (version 7), but still have the same issue. I then redownloaded AIM and its still doing the same old thing.

    I'm using Vista's firewall, and it doesn't appear to be causing any problems. My brother uses Pidgin to talk to me on yahoo, could there be an issue there? Other than that I don't know what could be causing the problem.

    Any ideas on either programs' problems? I'd like to get one of these running, but I guess if I must I can switch to something else (except MSN Messenger, that doesn't work either). If you need more info just ask.

    strange...so right now you can't sign in to aim at all? maybe try reinstall or go to your friends house with your computer to see if it works on their Internet.

    Just tried it, has the same issues :(.

    I've reinstalled it several times, no luck there. Moving my desktop will be a little difficult, but maybe I can work something out if I have to.

    Tomorrow I'll try installing both of them on a public computer and see if I have the same issues.

    Meebo is online...how does it not work? You must have internet problems if you can't connect your screennames on Meebo. Or maybe the problem is your screennames. Banned or something. What's the error you get from Meebo?

    I know its right though because I can log in on aim.com.

    It's definitely your screenname then. Pretty sure. Try making a new account and logging in, it will most likely work. You can login into aim.com but that still could mean your screenname is blocked or banned or something. It will still allow you to login online, but not on the actual IM protocol.
