I am a big fan of Chrome and has been an avid user of it since its launch. However, I tried using IE8 again. Upon opening it, IE8 window popped up as it normally does and suddenly closes just before the home page appears. I did this a couple of times and same thing happens. What seems to be the problem? :(

    Thanks in advance :(

I would try a reboot of the PC if you haven't already.

Then I would visit the IE8 homepage and re-download it, and install it.

get into your internet settings and put EVERYTHING related to IE back to the defaults.

remove any toolbars and custom search providers too.

I uninstalled IE 8 and downgraded to IE7, including my Office 2010 to Office 2001 and my IE is working fine again! I don't know why my IE8 was crashing prior to the things I did though... :(

You could have uninstalled/re-install IE8 via "Turn on or off Windows feature" found under "Programs & Features" in the Control Panel. (turn it off, restart computer, turn it back on, restart. When turning off a feature , it uninstall it completely from your system).

-Okay, thanks a lot. I will try that then. However, I have some friends who are experiencing problems, if not similar with mine, in IE8. It seems that Microsoft needs to do a lot of fixes in IE8. Consequently, my friends and I opted to uninstall and re-install IE and downgraded to IE7.

Well IE 9 is coming along.. and it seams it's being reprogrammed entirely:
    Internet Explorer 9: Platform Demos
(note: it installs as a separate web browser, doesn't affect your current IE version). You will notice the complete lack of features.. you don't have a URL bar...
So if all this is true (and not just a special environment for IE99 for now, and then dumb everything on IE8), it should be an interested version of IE9..

Anyway, but your and your friends problem is very curious. On my side IE 8 works perfectly on all my system.. I really never heard of anyone having such problem. I am sure you have a program (anti-virus?) that puts some tool bar that IE fails to load and causes this problem.

It is strange that IE8 would pop up and close as you mentioned. Is this pertaining only to IE and nothing else? I would perform a system repair if it is my comp, short of a re-install just in case.

    cheers ...

    Bad add-on, no doubt.

Resetting IE on the advanced tab of Internet Options likely would have addressed this (it disables all add-ons)

system repair? U mean I'd insert my windows installation disc upon boot-up? What do u exactly mean? Thanks :)

-if the add-ins are disabled, does that mean they are also uninstalled?

-do you recommend uninstalling the add-ins as well?
