It's really odd. All of a sudden my IE6 stopped working. Even the ads in, lets say the Xfire window, come up action canceled out. MSN won't let me sign in either. I've tried deleted all my cookies, cache, and tweaked with my settings, but nothing.

But then, Firefox works perfectly normal. Any ideas? I've tried turning my firewall on/off, changing the proxy settings, etc.

Do you have a software firewall that might be blocking IE?

Have you caught any viruses? Adwares and viruses likes to attack IE. It won't attack any other internet browsers.

If there really is a virus, I hope you can find it and delete it. IE viruses are really hard to get rid of.

Yes do a virus run. I've had this problem before and it was very hard to delete. The virus won't seem to go away...

Just curious, does Outlook Express work? I know you probably dont use it, but it is also IE, so you may want to see if that works. One thing to try is downloading IE7. It is pretty stable and would be better than 6 anyhow, and may fix your problem. What is the problem exactly anyway?

Outlook does work for me. But when i start up IE, or if there is a IE ad in something (like the Steam gaming window) it just comes to that error page. MSN Messenger doesnt work though..

So how did the spyware, adware, virus scan go? If you want, totally up to you, try upgrading to IE7.

In that case, it is probably a malicious program messing with you.

I tried installing IE7, wouldn't let me install it. (Towards the end of installation, it just said it couldn't complete)

So probaly a trojan or virus. Oh well, i like reformatting :p

Lol that porobably the last scenario on the list. However, sometimes reformatting or factory restoring is a good thing. :)

Before you do that, one last solution, use the Windows System Restore utility. That may get rid of the virus if you revert to about 1 week ago, before you had the virus.

True, it could work, but from what I've been reading at all these tech support forums, 100% of the time, System Restore is a bunch of BS.

System Restore would have been worth a try, at least, just to see the outcome. In any case, I hope your computer will be fully functional again soon.

Most malware nowadays will insert itself into previous restore points. Really the only way to be sure you are clean once infected is a reformat. I am not saying you should drop everything and reformat immediately, but you do want to rather soon after infection. Until you do, don't trust that computer.
