I am amazed and confused that there is no discussion about the IE 8 beta release. It appeared on my screen yesterday and I installed it. Seems faster than IE 7 and the only difficulty I have had is that the previously set up KeePass information doesn't work correctly as yet (won't autotype as before). Did anyone else get IE 8 beta or was I dreaming???? What's going on out there??

I have had it for about 4 weeks
I was not that happy with it
I unistalled it a couple of days ago and went back to v7
Most of the time I ran it in emulation mode

It doesnt matter how good, or bad IE 8 is. IE just has a bad rep. So most FF3/Opera users will always say FF3/Opera > IE, even if IE 8 is far better then the other two (total speculation).

Well, if for some reason IE 8 were better than FF3 in overall security and user friendliness, I'd use it.

If I did nothing but web browse, and didn't even need explorer itself to be open, I guess IE would be a good fit.

That's not true because up until IE7, both Firefox and Opera were doing things much better than IE. I have no problems using IE if it's better than the current two. The one thing IE7 does that finally should have in previous versions is that it runs in protected mode but apparently MS ddn't give a crap about IE until Mozilla came on the scene and started to take market share from IE. I also like the layout of FF better than IE.

Why is it that both IE and Hotmail require .com to forward your request properly? All I should be able to do is type the name of a site such as CNN or Yahoo without padding MS's Live Search hit count. ;)

If IE8 does things that's already being done by FF3 or Opera, i'll make the switch. But I know the moment IE catches up to FF, Mozilla will leapfrog MS again.

Ya gotta love competition because if it were up to MS we'd still be using IE4. ;)

Dont get me wrong. I dont think IE is a very good browser. I was just simply stating something I noticed.

    FF3 ALL THE WAY BABY

I Used IE and it sucks for security, bloat, and hackers attack IE.

I have never really had any problems over the years with FF3

And don't forget Spyware, as a lot of it is delivered via IE. Microsoft's approach to IE has always been, "who cares if the barn door is wide open". ;)

I know IE security sucks but seriously, who ever got a virus because of IE? You must really be searching for one to get infected. If I saw any difference under usage, I would use Firefox but it seems the same for me, I don't feel that its really faster so I stick with IE + NOD32.

IE8 is looking good with colored tabs and InPrivate mode (aka pr0nz m0d). Still, the browsing is acceptable but Im happy with it.

I know no-one will agree with me but I really don't like FF3 it seems a bit of a step back in terms of usability. I went straight back to FF2 and on my vista PC I still use IE7 (I use FF with XP)

Opera is a good browser but I just can't be bothered using it IE7 is good enough for me I’m not looking for anything more. The only reason I got into FF2 was tabs. No need for FF anymore since IE ripped that idea.

So long as you are aware that FF2 will only be supported through mid-December 2008 and are OK with that.

I recently downloaded it to solve an issue with IE7, and I still get the same problem but less frequently, but to the detriment of speed, IE8 is much slower than IE7.

Use the compatibility view (between the address bar and the refresh button, when available).

I've been using FF3 since day one and I do not intend to upgrade, before that I was using FF for about three years.

IE6 sucked, IE7 sucks, and IE8 will suck, you can't make a browser go from bad to good in one release or multiple ones for that matter if it sucks so much.

It looks as if IE8 may be released (GA) fairly soon. Regardless, when it is released I will update from IE7 to IE8 to be current (and continue to use Firefox 3).

I gave it a go. Very impressive. Looks like a huge step in the right direction.
After 2 days I ditched FF3. Why keep 2 browsers when I am putting my lappy on a diet.
I did have couple of glitches on secure pages, but I had worse with FF.

Does anyone know when the Beta IE8 will be released? I have been using it for a while now and like it very much. It has some new features that are interesting and creative, and it hasn't been crashing or glitching as much as IE7 and its predecessors, but I notice that some websites (like Wells Fargo Bank) won't interface with a browser that is still in its Beta release stage.

IE8 still has bugs. I was on a chat room and 5 minutes later, there were 5 banners covering half the screen. The banners reloaded but instead of replacing the current banner, a new banner popped up on top of the old one. I do not get that bug/error with FF..

I'll take a snap shot of both screen later.

Really? I never would have thought that with it being a beta and all. You know described on the download site as "software that is ready for user evaluation, but still undergoing testing. You may experience bugs or compatibility issues with web sites while browsing."

Anyways I don't think anyone is talking about it because nothing is really happening with broswers at the moment. They are, for the most part, just getting small upgrades in speed and security. Nothing big enough to require people to think about other than, "Do I feel like upgrading?".

WOW! Just re-read the features description of IE8, and the Compatibility View feature has solved my own problem. With this feature, when I clicked on a website (in this case Wells Fargo Bank) that was incompatible with IE8, I just hit the Compatibility View button, and the bank site not only opened right up, but it accepted my fingerprint log on. Very very cool feature! :D

I'm just going to wait for it to be released on Windows Update to get it.

My school doesn't support IE8 yet (dumb Cisco Clean Access Agent).

IE8 is better than IE7 but bit slower than another Web browser like Opera, Chrome.

I installed IE 8 about a month ago and use it when I have to use IE, which is very seldom. No real complaints with it, although as I said, I almost never use it ;)

Very true. IE8 is a noteworthy improvement over IE7 (in terms of web standards) just as IE7 was a big improvement over IE6 (in terms of security and features). All above said, any of the following are miles ahead of IE altogether: Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari, and others.
