Okay so last week I made a system image of my whole Windows 7 install so that I could have a restore point just in case something happens.

Something has happened, so I thought "Simple enough, I will just put in my external hard drive, load the system image from the restore center, and wallahhhh good as new". Of course not. When it says for me to go to Restart the computer to be restored to the system image, it says "Failed to Restart Computer: Windows cannot restart into the Recovery Enviroment to complete the recovery operation".

So I say, ok, let's go to recovery center and move my Windows 7 install to a week before now, simple enough. NOPE. It restarts, but it loads back into my Windows 7 install without doing anything and gives me an error message.

turn on the computer, enable the boot menu, choose "repair my computer"

Go into the recovery mode, select recover from image or something like that.

    Then wait half an hour.

Alright I'll try that. Rep to you. I'll report back once it's completed/if it doesn't work.

Also, if you have a bootable windows 7 install disc, you can recover your backup using the utility from there as well.

I've restored W7 image via DVD disc and external hard drive and it works really well and is very easy. Kudos to MS for a painless way of restoring your drive for a worst case scenerio.
