I actually wanted to update to vista ultimate (well, or something like it, i remember it was free and it was the best version i could update to, from windows any-time upgrade) a few weeks ago, but i quit cause of lack of time. Today, when i wanted to, i go again to their website, and instead of the old vista updates they show me the windows 7 updates:

First i thought i can go to w7 for free, so i continued, i chose the windows 7 ultimate, but after i proceeded it asked me 300$ for it.
Since i am not interested in such upgrades, how can i go back to the windows vista updates screen, where i could chose windows vista update i'm interested in?

PS: my current OS is windows vista home premium

p.s.--why upgrade from Home Premium to Ultimate. There is no reason for you to do that unless you are after a specific feature and 99percent of people don't need those features.

Windows 7 is a different (and newer) OS, so you have to buy it. Its not an update, its an upgrade.

And you needn't go to the MS page for updates. Just go:

Start Menu>All Programs>Windows Update. It will show you all the relevant updates for your OS, not Win7 ones.

well since its the latest vista version i thought it has some new features, like better performance, etc? so in the end, does it worth upgrading to vista ultimate?

ultimate is not the latest version of vista==they all came out at the same time. It has added features, but none the typical home owner requires

Microsoft has specific upgrade paths when it comes to upgrading from a certain edition of Vista to a different edition of 7. ie, you can't go from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate for free.

If you have Vista Home Premium at the moment, the best choice you can make is to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. The Ultimate editions of both operating systems only has a couple of extra features that are, for the most part, useless.

You're not being particularly helpful. If you want to help, clarify misunderstandings.

I've always thought that Microsoft's upgrade prices should be their license prices.

I have Vista Ultimate and it's running fine. I have both 32 and 64 bits running on different desktops and laptops. Windows 7 has some new features and some lost features from Vista. The main thing is that MS is pushing Win7 now and Vista is not in the limelight anymore. You can get Vista, XP OS's for cheap at eBay. Retailers are aggressively trying to get rid of them.

While XP has it's virtues, there is no reason to get Vista. It was a decent operating system during the time that I used it, but there's absolutely no reason to use it in light of Windows 7.
