It comes with windows7 pro. I want to know if its possible for me to upgrade it to windows 8 . it seems that
microsoft offers upgrades for new pcs for as low as 15$ for upgrade? Windows Upgrade Offer - Landing Page

will I be able to use this offer? oh and btw if it works, do you still have your old win7 working + you get win8
    or you will loose win7?

Sorry if question has been asked before! I searched and could not find answer to my question!

It does seem your PC qualify for the Windows 8 upgrade offer based from the terms and conditions set out by Microsoft ( link). Though it's a shame that the Free Windows 8 Upgrade offer from HP doesn't cover the Elitebooks range, only their consumer PC range get this free benefit.

Thank you very much for your reply Hearst.

It's good to know that I will be able to upgrade as I thought maybe it was a mistake that I didn't wait for win8 version to be available.
The laptop was already so expensive for me, so I can live with an extra 15$ :)

Why would you lose your windows 7 license? Of course you get to keep it.

I don't know why you would lose it either?
The link I included certainly suggest that you will not.

thanks guys. this is reassuring as I want to (just until I get used to win8) dual boot my laptop to both win7 and win8
once I feel totally ok with win8 I will probably remove 7.

    thanks for all the info!
