OK. I'm doing this project where I have to make a short movie. It's all done and ready, but when I publish it, the out put is weird. Let me explain. I have subtitles in the movie. The output movie has the screen cut in half, with the subtitles in the bottom and the stretched movie on the top. Keep in mind that it works perfectly in Movie Maker. Any help is appreciated.

Windows Movie Maker sucks. But it is improved from XP to Vista.

Have you tried different output options?

WMM sucks for you, but it's pretty good for beginners.

    NVM.. then

As far as I know, Movie Maker is probably the easiest to learn and use.

Well, that is the impression I've received, although I think Mac might have some better software. I actually haven't yet checked out all the recommended Linux options, though. But nothing I've found so far really gives me simple, intuitive control over what I want to do with splicing and replacing video and audio. Oh well ... I suppose I'm a bit demanding. :p

If you're using a Mac, I suppose Imovie is pretty good as well. I movie is about as good as the new windows movie maker.

I find Windows Movie maker really easy to use for beginners and making simple youtube clips/presentations.

The more advanced programs like Sony Vegas pro cost an arm and a leg.

There was only 1 open source video editing program last time i checked.

I agree, the trouble is that there are no intermediate video editors. It's either the travesty that is WMM or something that costs hundreds of dollars, like Sony Vegas.

The basic versions of Vegas are not too much, and its not too hard to learn and fully featured.

A few online tutorials and your ready to rock.

Adobe products however have been much harder to use for me, so I stick with Vegas for my simple editing.

Isn't Sony Vegas considered intermediate level programs?
Other video edtors such as Ulead video studio and Pinnicle video studio are also considered intermediate level programs.

I believe Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro is considered "advanced" video editor. For adobe products, once you learn 1 program, you should be familiar with all of its programs. Once you get used to Adobe's interface, everyone of their program seems easy. I rarely use Final Cut Pro because I don't have a Mac.

I use vegas for the simple editing, and sometimes Adobe after effects for my advanced effects.

LOL.. Adobe After Effects is a Video Compositing Program.

There are great tutorials on videocopilot people can referr to if they want special effects. More advanced ones can be found on cgsociety.

After Effects is best used in conjunction with 3d programs such as maya2009.

    Are you using windows XP?

Newer version of Windows Movie maker in Vista is just as good as Imovie in Mac. The old version in Windows xp isn't as visually appealing but does gets everything done.
