Just moved back to XP from Vista, and it feels much much better and faster!!!

Yes, I did tweak Vista properly + had SP1 installed and disabled all the unneeded services like error reporting, ready boost, classical theme enabled, aero off, but still, it was like like a ***** even on my system which I consider pretty good with 3 GB RAM!

XP Does everything I want with twice the speed! XP is a real OS! Vista is just what MS wanted to come out with to make more money but didn't really offer anything worth taking home!

    XP FTW! kthxbye

You sure makes alot of fanboy threads.

The choice of OS is depended on the person's taste and needs; therefore, there isn't "the best" OS. Additionally, we don't need another thread on the same issue of XP is better than Vista. We have enough of them already.

Try going back to Win98, it will be 3 times faster than XP. :p

I'm not sure what's wrong with your computer, but XP is definitely not twice as fast as Vista on my laptop, they're actually pretty close.

I dunno what's up. my score is only 3.6 surprisingly, my friend who has a slightly slower dual core CPU (he only has 2.0 GHz. I have 2.16 GHz.) gets a 4.0 score.

Maybe my graphics chipset is utter crap

That score is actually the base score, it's not the average score. In another word, Vista will just take the lowest score as the base score. It doesn't really mean your system is worst than your friend's. Maybe you just have a lower graphic score than your friend.

To each his own. Vista is not to my liking either, but if others prefer that OS, best to them.

@OP: I'm assuming you meant "twice as fast" as a simple figure of speech? I doubt seriously that XP is twice as fast as Vista.

UAC doesn't interfere with renaming, deleting, etc.
Not only UAC makes Vista secure, but a completely re-written kernel.

Its so people like the OP can feel like badasses and iconoclasts for not going with the newest thing on the block. Then ranting about how just because their experience was favorable, that OS is automatically the best.

Oh yeah, I forgot my computer gets hacked into on a daily basis. :D Any OS secure, it's the user who is the security issue, that's why you have UAC because people love to just open whatever junk there is out there. Also OS X and Linux OS use a UAC like security prompt when you need to perform an operation with root/admin privileges.

Curious, eleron as to whether you're serious or just joking here. I prefer XP (or, better still, Linux), but think all this arguing and bashing OSes is silly (please don't infer that I mean you're doing that. That's just my personal overall view on the issue in general).

    Edit:

Perhaps, but how about OSX/Linux for those of us who don't game?

And, no, this isn't really a serious post, just a silly notion which crossed my mind while reading your post. lol

That's because it is a new laptop. When you uninstalled Vista and put on XP, a team of lightening fast gnomes came in and switched laptops when you blinked.

    The XP gnomes strike again.
