    I can't open up any downloads...help!

    Okay, this might be a very simple fix...I know I may sound like a total noob (i am) but now everytime I try to download anything my pc does not download it to a location where I can actually open/use the download in a productive way therefore i am completely stuck rite now. this is what it shows.

    I tried making it download it to another location but none of them are the correct locations. i need help please!

    For some reason it always wants to download it to notepad (default), I don't know why as i never changed anything and i certainly did not set notepad as my default download location.

    Click on the drop-down box and select Other....

    Then select a decompressing software/extractor such as 7-zip, winrar, winzip etc, and Check "Do this automatically for files like this from now on".

    I'd just do "Save file". I think it should put it in your Downloads directory (under your home dir) but you should be able to change that in Internet Options if you like. (This is IE right?) Then go to that directory in Explorer, right-click the file and do "Extract All...". Then you don't need a third-party program like 7-Zip. (Although that works fine too.)

    Seriously hope you are kidding. You're trying to OPEN the file there instead of download it. If you want to download it, you need to click on "Save File". Firefox defaults to downloading files to your desktop, but you can change that in Firefox's Preferences. I normally change it to always ask me where to d/l files. Good luck.
