    I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and it usually runs great but when I turned it on today I received this message "interactive logon process initialization failed; please consult event log". My pc screen is black so I don't understand what an event log is or how to access it. Since the screen is black and not responding, I don't understand what to do. The only thing that I did different before this happened was to uninstall "eset security" program. I am now working off my desktop. I sure would appreciate any help since I am definitely technologically challenged. Thanks in advance. :eek:

    i am not a pro either, but if you can still power up or restart the pc, i think it's referring to the event log in the event viewer. administrators tools -> event viewer or just search for it in vista.

    Ah but if he's running Vista, and has a Vista install disk, he could try the Upgrade option, this will reinstall the OS without loss of data and installed applications from what I've been reading, that's assuming he you can that whilst booting from the CD, I've only ever done it while actually in Vista...

    Actually now I've re-read the OPs post he hasn't mentioned what OS he's running?

    try the old F8 on boot and see if you can get into safe mode...don't know if it will start this way...sounds like your boot loader .txt file has become corrupted...this is what a boot loader looks like written in notepad and in the header on properites of the file is the word boot...of course yours will look a little different i'm still with XP

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
