Im planning on upgrading once the official release comes out, but I am hesitant since my laptop is pretty old. How well would it run Windows 7 and games like TF:2, CS:S, and BF2 play? Heres my specs

Intel Core Duo T5500 1.66GHz (Upgrading later to a 2.2 GHz)
    2.5 GB DDR2 533MHz SDRAM
    13.3" WXGA Color Shine
Hard Drive: 320GB; SATA 7200 RPM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 w/128 MB VRAM (Overclocked)

it will run like a dream on that machine, heck the 32 bit version runs VERY well on an old p4 2.4 and 768Mb ram and a crappy old 4200rpm HDD. So gaming on that machine shouldnt be too bad, but dont expect to max settings on the old go 7400

Can't say about the gaming, but Windows 7 will run fine on those specs. Today I installed Windows 7 Enterprise on an old XPS M140 notebook, with an older Pentium M 1.7 ghz (not even a core 2 duo) with 2 GB RAM. Only has the Intel 910/915 video chipset so no aero. It runs really well, better than Vista ran on it. (It originally shipped with XP.)

It runs fine on my Dell which has almost the same specs as yours, you might drop a couple of frames per second compared to xp but nothing major :)

It will run very smoothly on a laptop like that. You can Google for 'Windows 7 Specifications' or something if you want to find out the minimum requirements.

only issue you may have is nvidia driver.i faced it on my friends hp laptop.
what i did was ,i used vista rtm driver for nvidia.windows update driver is of no use here on nvidia7400,it locks up winsat.

then only option that works is use manufacturer supplied drivers.

Basically, the other specifications you mentioned will work nicely with Windows 7.
The last thing you need to take care of is your Motherboard BIOS.
Sometime, Windows 7 may get crash or can't install perfectly due to the Motherboard BIOS was too old. But this is rare.

If my friend can run Windows 7 on an Acer Aspire One, (1.6Ghz Atom, 1GB RAM, GMA 950) with all visual effects enabled, then I'm pretty sure that will be fine.

I sent my qosmio in to get my cpu upgraded so had to dust off my old HP dv9000 to use in the mean time. I've only booted it a few times after getting it back from hinge crack repair from HP. It bsod on first startup after getting it back and started doing it again when i recently needed to use it. It just kept blue screening even in safe mode.

Installed Win7 x64 (because that is the only version that I have)and works great, haven't had a single hiccup.

Wow, I ran Windows 7 on a Pentium M 1.6 GHz, 2 GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 32 MB, and it ran perfectly well. (No Aero though). You should have no trouble at all.

Yeah, it's great how resource light Windows 7 is. :)

One time I installed Vista to an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ that had 768Mb RAM and it ran rather OK (thanks to NVIDIA, it actually did Aero). So I wouldn't worry if I had your specs...The main thing Windows likes is ample RAM (anything above 2Gs is good)
