In vista 64bit, it is pointless to me. It says 'start search' and i can enter whatever I want in it, but I want to get rid of it....there does not seem to be any options for that though. Even though I removed all of the searching options in the options.
I was also wondering how I would share files between windows XP and VISTA. It seems not so strait forward when it comes to sharing in VISTA. I liked the complex way of sharing (permissions and such) in XP...is that an option on VISTA?
I also don't see my Windows XP share...I am running VISTA 64 bit ultimate SP1, XP PRO SP3 on my other machine.

Sounds like you want XP with an Aero theme. That would probably be easier than taking out all the useful features in Vista...

weird! I had my vista desktop working fine when it came to sharing, now it does not see any PC/Laptop, be it XP or VISTA....Is there something I should be doing differently?
That aero crap is a huge waste of memory if you ask me....If I can get it looking like XP all the better. I have it tweaked pretty good so far, thanks to that FAQ.
Thanks fellow Minnesotan -
Switch to windows classic....

It is on windows classic, but that bar is still there...Is there a black theme for windows classic by chance?
How to remove that search function in the START menu? -- also VISTA sharing question
