I've got a dv6700 this month and I'm trying to install Windows XP. The problem is that when I try to install the setup can not recognize my hard drive. I saw same workarounds like disable SATA on the computer BIOS but mine simply doesn't have the option. My computer's conf is:
    BIOS: F.45
    Hard Drive: SATA 5400250GB (ICH8??)

Does anybody know how to install Windows XP on this machine?

    Thanks!
    Vitor

Arg.. wth... why won't HP list the newest BIOS on their freakin' website! I want Penryn support!

Anyways, there's a thread in the HP/Compaq section regarding on how to install XP on DV6500 and DV6700 notebooks.

Basically, you just need to extract Intel's Matrix Storage Drivers and integrate them onto a Windows XP disc using nLite. That'll get XP to recognize your SATA hard drive.

Another question....I'm installing Windows XP after Vista and I'm using Bootstar boot manager. After the first step of windows XP installation (files copy) I got the message "Wiondows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.
Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware."

I use to use the same boot manager with no problems when I put Windows XP and 2003 (in other computers).

Comments: I've already fixed the MBR by executing bootstar after the XP first step installation. Windows Vista is starting normally, but XP is driving me crazy!

Any idea about how to solve this problem?

Guys, problem solved! I had to edit the boot.ini file.

I entered the Vista (that was working fine) and in the d: drive (windows XP drive) I fixed the boot.ini file.

    Thanks,
    Vitor
