How to download Windows 7 from Microsoft

This guide allows you to choose from several editions, 32- or 64-bit, and language. Make sure you pick the right one, otherwise you can't activate.
I didn't come up with this, it's been around the internet for a couple of months.

My advice to Windows 7 users: Get the files you need while you can!
The older links stopped working last year, and nobody knows how long these will work.

2 - Go to: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/techbench

3 - Do the following in your browser:

Chrome and Opera: press Ctrl + Shift + J, paste the code in the console, and press enter.

Fx: press Ctrl + Shift + K (type Allow Pasting first if needed), paste the code in the bottom of the console, and press enter.

IE and ME: press F12, click console tab, paste code in the bottom of the console, and click the green play button in the lower right corner.

It looks like MS tries to collect data from this access, and since I have those IP's/IP ranges blocked, and hosts redirected to 0.0.0.0 in the MS hosts file, I get this error in Chrome and similar in IE (high-lighted on Right in first image):

But does it actually prevent you from downloading? I also get various erros but it I can still download.

Blocked by client error isn't fatal. The end point isn't responding, but the DNS resolution succeeded.

 

So your issue doesn't stop you from downloading? I added the URL in question to hosts and I could still download.

 

No, it errors and stops there. It's likely an IP/IP range blocking in my Firewall, not a hosts entry - but I haven't checked.

 

Ok, I misunderstood you. At least you know why it happens.

 

And, at least we know MS is watching

That MS site has nothing to do with performing the download.
