I have toshiba laptop which is not working anymore and I got tons of data saved in the hard drive.

How can I copy the data into my external hard drive or into my new laptop.

When you say its not working do you mean: windows is corrupted, or the hard drive is bad, or there is an actual physical problem?

If its just the hard drive that wont boot, you could boot into a Linux Live cd/usb enviornment and copy your data to the external drive.

Another possibly easier method would be to remove the hard drive and get a USB to SATA conversion cable. Then you could plug the old drive into your new laptop and copy the data. The cable would look something like this:

you could buy it from newegg, ebay, or other online computer parts places.

Pretty much Sprime said. If the hard drive is functional and not corrupted, you can remove it and use a docking station, cable, or another computer with an empty slot to transfer the data.

I don't want to open my new laptop to connect it Cos it will void the warranty.

Old laptop had problem with mother board but drive itself is in working order.

    Any alternative please

What model is it? If it isn't an ultrabook there should be a back plate u can remove that shouldn't have a void sticker on it. Plus removal of HDDs don't usually void warranty.

You do not have to open your new laptop. You just have to do as S.Prime has said and connect the cable to your old hard drive, then plug in the usb end into your new laptop and copy your files over to your new laptop.

I use something like this Kingwin
    EZ-Connect USB to SATA/IDE Adapter

Kingwin EZ-Connect USB to SATA/IDE Adapter USI-2535 - Micro Center

This helps to hookup a ext HDD and then I can transfer all the data to the ext drive.
