The title is fairly self-explanitory. I'd like it off because notebook hardware control has a better one.

1.right click on clock in lower left.
    2.select properties.
    3.click customize
4.find the battery indicator and choose "hide always"

Or you can set the energy properties not to give status.

A few problems with that. First off, that just hides the icon, it doesn't remove it. Second off, you have to enable icon hiding for that to even work. I don't want the XP battery icon hidden; I want it gone.

Why? I don't really understand... if it is hidden, then who cares.

I care. I don't like that annoying arrow that appears, and I like to see everything in the taskbar and notification area. I don't want the Windows battery icon there because it's redundant (I have a better battery meter).

No such setting inside the power options. There are no energy properties in the control pannel.

Any suggestions? I'm willing (and able) to mess with the registry to do this...

Yes there are energy properties. Right click on your desktop, and go to properties>screen saver>Power Managment.

Sorry. I did some quick googling, and I don't think it exists. powercfg.exe is the only thing I saw, and that's just a command line version of the normal power config dialog.

This program claims to be able to do it. Not sure myself.

You can do it from Control Panel, Power Options (loosely translated from Chinese Version, not sure), Advanced tab.

Haha, from another mans troubles you can drawn answers: http://www.footslog.com/board/Forum14/HTML/000196.html

Take a look at that, the guy was having trouble with his battery meter refusing to appear. Some of the posts people make later on provide a few clues, here is one possibility:

    "

I've found that if this turned ON for all programs, the XP battery meter does not load -- at least on my new Laptop. With a little effort I'm sure we can determine which EXE must be added to the exclude list so that you can use the execution protection feature and just exclude that program -- but for me, turning it off is acceptable so I'm done now."

To all except spookyu: There are no "Energy Settings". I don't know what world you live in, but they dont exist in XPMCE SP2. What you're all probably refering to is the "Power Options" control panel folder, which allows you to tinker with power options. This doesn't allow you to force the battery icon away.

To Spookyu: Thank you for the suggestion that actually made me hopeful. Unfortunatly, none of those reverse methods worked, (not even going into command prompt, and changing the settings for the battery icon).

I'm open to any and all suggestions, but please don't suggest using the windows power options in the control panel, or powercfg.exe, OR hiding it via the taskbar settings. I've tried those already, and they don't work, or I don't like the byproduct.

Please try to not be so offensive. Everyone is trying to help. It is called "Power Managment", but most people call it "Energy" settings, because of the big "Energy" icon next to it.

I really just don't see the need with this. I mean, I am not cutting you down, I am just saying, if I couldn't see the icon... I wouldn't mind. I would just hide the icon, and use the Notebook program to monitor it.

Y'know, KGann, being the "peacemaker" rarely ingratiates you to anyone involved. And, all things considered, he was quite nice about it. Get off your high horse.

MrWacko: Sorry, still haven't found anything. I'd love to hear if you figure it out, though. It'd be handy. I'm in much the same boat, but I have enough real-estate and use virtual desktops, so a larger tray doesn't bother me too much.

You were saying that you like nhc's battery stuff better... there is a setting in nhc to hide the windows battery icon. Under the battery tab there's a check box for "Hide the default System Battery Icon on battery operation" Sometimes on a/c power the little electrical plug will show up, but when you unplug the laptop the battery icon appears for a split second then goes away, not just hidden with the arrow....

What? I told him I wasn't cutting him down, and I sure am on no "high horse". I just meant, that he seemed abrubt about the posts, as if everyone was "bugging" him because they couldn't figure it out.

Why don't you try helping him, and not going at me. Sound like a good plan?

Anyways, I'll say it again... I have no clue how to turn it "off", I just know how to hide it. I know this will sound dumb, but have you tried Google yet?

Yeah, I kind of figured it was a dumb question. Did you ever get it turned off?
