    Control Panel\System and Maintenance\System

Scroll to the bottom, under Windows activation.

    Hope it helps.

Yup, just do what Tinderbox said. There's a "Windows Activation" section of the System (Control Panel > System and Maintenance > System) window and it is all the way at the bottom.

Did you get your notebook used from a shady person/store or something?

You shouldn't have to worry about that with a new notebook :D

If you've recently got it, I would imagine it's already been activated, if there was any issues with activation it would have told you. Sometimes you may have to do telephone activiation and give a load of numbers down the telephone line, but only if you re-install. I've had to do this on my desktop before.

If you re-install all you have to do is look at the bottom or the side or your pc for the product key and type it back in.

This is after I have typed in the product key and installed etc. For some reason it won't activate automatically. Then I have to phone through a load of numbers and then microsoft give me another load of numbers to put into the os. This happens on both my desktop and notebook.

You don't need that to return your notebook.

I ordered a Sager notebook from XoticPC and you can only return it if Windows Vista isn't activated. I'm not completely satisfied with my Sager notebook and I plan on returning it.

I just wanted to know if there is anyway to deactivate Windows Vista. My notebook activated it automatically for some reason, which I didn't want it to do. Any ideas?

You don't need to deactivate it to return it. It automatically activates it for you when you buy a new pc.

You could do that, but there's no point.

This is what it says in the warranty: "if Windows XP, Vista or Microsoft Office has been activated, it will not be accepted back for refund or credit."

So I should do a factory re-install? How would I do that?

(By the way, I have Windows Vista Premium right now. I also have the Recovery Disk).
