Hey peeps. Whenever I start up windows (vista) as soon as I reach desktop I get a small window that pops up headed "Info" and it tells me "CreateService error!!". Is there a way to get rid of this annoying alert or do I have to live with it?

    Cheers all.

When did this start? Got a restore point? Review your start-up processes and see which one is causing this. Any other error codes after the message?

    cheers ...

I just installed vista on my new laptop (see sig) 2 days back and everything is now working perfect except for this tiny message that pops up after booting into windows. It started after I disabled UAC through msconfig I think. Since then I reenabled it via msconfig then disabled it through control panel instead but the message is still there. Otherwise there are zero problems. If that is root of the problem then I guess I would rather live with this litte message rather than incessant permissions pop ups lol

edit: I have disabled: adobe reader speed launcher, ituneshelper, nerofiltercheck,Quicktime task, turbo gear help and microsoft office. ink at startup but I think all of those shouldn't be needed

I would still go back and review your start-up process and disable the ones that you don't need first. Then disable some more one by one and see.

I recommend using cCleaner for it. This way you can re-enable the process back easily. One can use msconfig as well, I just find cCleaner a bit easier to navigate.

    cheers ...

Still having the pop-up I presume?

ok - disable smserial, then nvcpldaemon, then gear init, then turbogear one by one and see. You can turn it back on after testing with the disabling.

    cheers ...

yeah what I stated before was how I have it set up at the moment. I shall try disabling the others one by one and see. Also I will enable the disabled ones one by one too I guess. Thanks for the advice

Have you reviewed any of your error logs?

Check in your event logs to see what's getting logged with that error. From a quick googling, it looks like this error can be triggered when something tries to start a service that's already been started by something else. There also appear to be other causes, however, so it would be best if you checked in your event logs for more specific info.

This issue seems resolved now. Windows update just installed service pack 1 so I assume it fixed the problem. Thanks all :)

Hi, I'm a user of ASUS C90P from China, I encounter the same issue as you referred to above, while, I found a solution to have it solved, it is as follows:
    1. click 'RUN' in the START area,
    2. type 'msconfig',
    3. when moconfig pops up, turn to 'Launch'
    4. unselect(disable) auto launch item'GenepccMon',
    5. choose to restart your notebook.
    you'll find the pop-ups disappears.
