Forget windows media player, uninstall it completely and get something like Winamp for free.

Microsoft uses wmpnscfg.exe to alert users when media rendering devices are found on the network also to share Windows Media Player libraries. Wmpnscfg starts the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service (NSS) and then waits for notifications from the service.

Even if you stop it in the task manager's process list, it's straight back there when you restart WMP. In addition, you might find that killing or disabling the dependencies in the Services list (making it Stop and Disabled on startup) have no effect.

After doing a little searching there is apparently a registry change that you can make that will stop this service from ever running. First make sure that you unchecked the "Share my media" checkbox in WMP 11 Library Options, also look in my computer>manage>services and applications>services> here look for wmp's network sharing services and set it to disabled otherwise doing anything else to stop it at startup will generate system errors. Try the above first and see if it comes back, if it doesn't work do the below registry change as the last resort.

To make it not run again, open the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences\HME and set the DWORD value DisableDiscovery to 2.
If you don't have said key just create it... (make a note of the registry change in case you need to reverse it in the future)

All of this is why I still use WMP10, 11 is just too much hassle!
    Hope this helps you.
