I recently bought a Dell XPS Studio Desktop with Office and Student 2007 installed. I also received the Disc with the product key. Can I load the software on my laptop also? I know retail versions can load onto several computers, but what about OEM versions?

    Thanks

OEM versions are restricted to the hardware they are sold with or installed on first.

So you cannot migrate an OEM license from one computer to another one.

If you received a disk with a product key, I don't think that counts as an OEM version. I'm not sure though, better to look into it further.

What does the disk say as far as COA? It should tell you there if you can install on just one or more.

What does the COA on the bottom of your laptop say? OEM?

    cheers ...

Read the EULA in your Office install.

I read somewhere on Dell's site that the Office they sell you is a single-use license, thus why it is decently cheap (not really).

    One computer only...

He's not asking about migrating the software. He's asking about a second installation of it. The retail version of Office allows you to have it installed on one "fixed" machine, a desktop, and one "mobile" machine, a laptop. He wants to know if the OEM license affords the same rights. I've not seen the wording of the Office OEM license so I have no idea.

    Thanks for all the replies.

The CD's COA says Dell Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 (OEM) It is still packaged. The software was pre-loaded at Dell before I got it.

I cant remember If I had to agree to the EULA when I opened it/registered it the first time (does anyone really read those EULAs ?? lol) Also where can I find the Eula now? I am new to 2007, have been using 2003 and don't know my way around yet.

I guess If it doesn't allow a second install, I will just buy another "cheap" copy from my Employers Student Services (I am an employee of a State University) I bought Office professional a long time ago for $40.00. It stated I could load it on 3 computers. I lost that disc and desktop in Hurricane IKE

if you got it from dell you are out of luck, 1 pc only, but, i don't know if you have heard of it but Open Office is a free alternative with the same tools as Micro$oft Office 2007 and it ran read write in that format too (you can select older versions to save in as well) and i had it on my old computer which does not have office. But liek you said, so you an employee of s State University so you should be able to get it for decently cheap
