I was browsing around some shady sites for a crack, downloaded a .zip file, scanned the .zip file -> clean result. I so unzipped and ran an executable.
I got hit with a bunch of trojans and malware/spyware. I ran a boot-time scan and got most of that cleaned up, but when I start up Windows, after my stuff loads, Daemon Tools gives an error message saying "Driver SCSI not found" and I also get an explorer.exe - Application Error, as well as svwhost in the c:\windows\system.
What steps should I take? I've never been hit this hard with any sort of virus.

try booting into safe mode before running the scan. what app are you using for virus scan?
last resort, reformat. -
I'm using Avast! Home Edition. So can I safely delete any trojan-infected files?
One of the files that I still have popping up is C:\WINDOWS\inet20010\3.01.00.dll. Can I delete this one? -
Is there a way I can repair any Windows missing files, etc? Or re-install Windows and still have all my files?
I got XP Pro with my lappy, I don't have a Windows XP CD, would it be on one of the recovery disks?
When I startup and I'm at my desktop I get the "explorer.exe - Application Error" still - can anyone help me out?
Ack, when I right click on .exe files, my screen refreshes to the desktop and my windows closes. Do you guys have any suggestions? It looks like a reformat is in the works... -
You don't have to reformat but it would be nice if you make a clean install of Windows or at least repair this installation. You can use System Restore to try to undo the virus (most probably won't work) or File Signature Verification to inspect your files (System information/ Tools).
Btw, I don't think you got the virus from the file you ran. In the majority of the cases, trojans enter as you browse and open your computer for anything else. Do you use a firewall? -
in your situation I'd run Hitman 2 Pro. http://www.hitmanpro.nl/
install it then go to preference I think it is before running it and turn on the virus scanning too. the run it and watch it run, kind of impressive. It downloads the latest spyware programs, sets them up, runs them, removes infected files, all automatically. I think you just have to click to accept license agreements for them. I use this when I run into a particularyly infected system.
and in teh end if all else fails formatting is really the cleanest approach. -
