    Hi people,

How do you fix / change the drag and drop settings in Vista Ult.? I mean, there is this option to either copy or move, when you click on a file in folder A and drag it to folder B. In my desktop, this drag n drop just copies, but doesnt move the file completely.

In my laptop, its moving the file from A to B. I checked on google and figured out there are many options to drag n drop, including some advanced.. Also I know that when right click and drag, we get an option popup to either copy or move n then we select...

I want to know how to fix the left click drag n drop to either copy or move?

    Thanks for any inputs. Cheers.

Right-button drag gives you the menu, as you said.

Left-button drag does the default acton, which is move if both the source and dest. folder are on the same volume, and copy if they're on different volumes. I don't know if there's any way to change this.

Ahhh, thanks a lot. I didn't know in this detail... Thanks a lot :)

Btw, what do u mean exactly by 'volume'? U mean the drive? as in C: or D: or E:??? well in that case now I understand why its always 'moving'.. but this isn't the same in XP, no? I mean I can just copy the files there when left click drag n dropping.. and in both case I am talking about folder' being in the same 'volume'...

    Anyways.. thanks again.

By "volume" I mean a "drive" or really a partition such as C: or D: or E:, which may actually all be located on the same physical drive or different physical drives.

But yes, it does work the same way as with XP, I believe. I'm surprised you say you copy files with left-drag within the same volume on XP. Maybe there's an option you can set somewhere... I don't know.

Yes there is  in fact very recently my boss too got it set like that... and same in my desktop at work.. left click on a file, drag n drop just copies.. doesn't "move" the file completely..

Though I, most of the time, because of the confusiong be sure with the right click n chose copy / move or simply I use the ctrl+c or cut n paste.. anyways..

But yes, in XP pro left click drag n drop copies.. Can someone tell us how this could be done / set or where to look for these settings??

I very vaguely remember long back I did it once myself.. as in I remember seeing a place where u cud chose what the drag n drop does.. :( my poor memory.. I am getting old..

You know, I usually just avoid the issue by right-dragging and choosing what I want from the menu.

Ah thanks a lot for that...

@ Swarmer.. thats what I do these days instead of bothering too much.. at least my mind seems to be bit more peaceful.. ;) lol.. thanks anyways..

@ night kid.. Yeah I read about these settings.. there was a really nice page on the web detailing these options... thanks for that link too :) though for now I will follow the right click method and see how it goes before I lay my hands on the registry... Thanks again :)
