Your pc and tv hdmi must also be version 1.4. If not then it is a no go.

    Don't you mean 2.0? 1.4 is 30fps.

Yes 2.0 HDMI for 60h, my bad. So the 1.4 on the 4600 is the limitation you need most likely to use display port or DVI-D

Thanks everyone. Optimus is not working out for me.

Would it be possible to run it through a display port adapter to HDMI 2.0 and get 4K 60hz? And what would happen with that when I'm gaming and my 970m kicks in?

    Thanks.

Technically possible, just make sure to get the right cables.

If you're able to use the 970M instead you should get HDMI 2.0, I guess you've tried that?

I have a muxless (Sager NP8268-s) notebook, so stuck with optimus I believe. I don't know of a way to disable the intel gpu.

Yea, looks like there isn't a way to completely bypass it, as the 970 uses the 4600 to interface with the monitors.

Just an update in case anyone runs into a similar problem. I purchased a Club3d displayport to HDMI adapter and can run 2k and 4k 60hz resolution. Starcraft 2 looks great.

    Thanks all.

It doesn't work that way. There's no physical video output connection to the 970M at all. If you do manage to disable the Intel device there's no output left to use. You either use the 4600 or have a black screen.

That depends on the model, obviously.

Hi, I know the thread is a bit old...

I got the same adapter and I have exactly the same PC setup, 970M with Intel HD4600, but I can't get 4k@60hz, my TV is Sharp and it does have an HDMi 2.0 connection.

Did u do anything particular to make it work?

The way Optimus (and other hybrid graphics) work is by passing the discrete GPU signal through the integrated GPU's interface. So you're still limited by everything the integrated GPU can do, since there's no actual direct connection between the discrete GPU and the outputs. The only way to get it to work is with an upconverting adapter like the Club3D one that the OP us using. Otherwise you're stuck at 30Hz.

Thanks for the reply pitabread, as I wrote in my post I already have the adapter and that's the problem, is not working.

I was curious to know if the OP run into issues the first time he tried it.

My TV has 4 HDMI ports, with 2 of them being HDMI 2.0, so you'll need to make sure you're plugged in to the correct port. Also, for me I had to go into the TV settings and set "HDMI Enhanced" on. You might have some similar setting you need to enable from the TV. Try researching your specific model and 4k 60hz input.

Did u setup anything else in the Intel control panel beside the custom resolution?

    Here's my setup.

Displayport -> Club 3d adapter -> HDMI 2.0 cable -> HDMI 2.0 port in my TV.

In the intel settings under Display I hit Custom Resolutions, set the resolutions and refresh rate, I think there was a timing standard option set to CVT-RB, and that was it. Are you getting an error message?

Ok thanks! no error message, just a black screen if I choose "maintain display scaling"(the other option works).

I already updated the adapter firmware more than once, bought a new cable, setup custom resolution like you did, check my TV setup and had an extensive email exchange with Club3D but no solution yet.

At least I had another confirmation from you (like many others), that the intel HD4600 support 4k@60hz.

I guess my laptop is at fault....

I just have to keep researching and understand why it doesn't work for me.

Nope, I have tried everything to make it works, its been a year and still no solution.

I have changed the cable, tried different drivers, even the latest one, ask to the 3Dclub for new firmware and for their support, no 60hz always 4k@30hz max.

Onestly I am giving up I guess it could be my laptop fault, but from what I have read other people have been successfull. It drives me crazy.

If you have an idea or find out something please let me know....

When it comes to those adapters it is not always a 100% guaranty of getting to the high end of resolution. I was just recently surprised that my 2012 laptop with advertised DP 1.1 with a GTX675m is actually running as a DP 1.2a.

Really true depends on many different factors, however people in the 3DClub forum have successfully connected this adapter to laptops with my same hardware specification, this is why I don't understand.... :(

It is not just the hardware spec's. As an example here the 675m is only a DP1.1 as usually they are designed internally to use only 2 lanes for the internal 1080p 60 Hz screen. Mine though has a 1080p 120Hz screen and is hardware designed for using 4 lanes internally. Because of the beefed up internal usage the hardware ends up really supporting the DP1.2a standards.

    I see.

Well I gave up anyway until I'll buy a new laptop with nvidia volta in it and no horrible optimus anymore....

What a terrible mistake to buy it...

The problem is these laptops use proprietary designs for just about everything. It becomes hard just by the hardware spec's to know what the real external capabilities are or are not just by the hardware specs alone. Admittedly I got lucky with mine.
