This is My first time doing a clean/fresh installation. I have recently done a fresh installation of windows 7 by booting via usb but I'm not sure if I installed it twice by mistake so this is what I done. I first changed the bios setting to boot from USB stick first and the first installation went fine until it said to "continuing to complete installation by restarting". When the laptop restarted it went back to installing windows 7 so I formatted the partition again and after it had completed installing the same message "Continuing to complete installation by restarting", but then I changed the boot sequence back to HDD as the top priority instead of USB.

My question is, Did I install windows 7 one or twice and how would I know?

When I tried changing the boot sequence by pressing a key I heard a beep noise by pressing the wrong key, Could this damage the laptop and going into the bios (2-3) times just to the boot sequence?

I'm quite scared as it is my first try plus fairly new laptop

If you had installed win 7 twice you would see a screen that would allow you to choose between OS's after the computer posts (similar to dual booting Vista and Win 7 for instance). I doubt that you could have damaged the machine. At this point does windows 7 load properly booting from the hard drive?

Im not sure yet but i have a lot of updates to install as this might slow process down so dont know second windows load normal without the option to choose. I went to msconfig and there was only 1 os(windows 7). Does that mean i have installed once or how would you check it to see if installed twice by mistake

If it went through a second install it probably reformated and over wrote the first install. In this case you are fine. It may though have upgraded the first install. In this case there would be a folder on the C:\ drive called "Windows.Old". If you ahve this folder, since it was a new install without data yet, you can just delete that folder.

Now since there is no SP2, nor is it planed, you get to do lots of updates. This is part of M$ plan to make people want Windows 8 over Windows 7. M$ is trying every thing possible to make it inconvenient to install and use Windows 7 to entice users to windows 8. I don't think this tactic is working as well for them though as they would like..................

    The installation process typically goes:

Press any key to boot from CD/DVD (unless booting from USB).
    Install initiates.
Select your partition(s) to delete and/or format.
Start install/copying files to hard drive.
    System reboots, then finalizes installation.

If you didn't partition the drive, it won't matter if you installed more than once. You'll only see the OS on the partition you installed it on. If you did partition it, you may have installed Windows on two partitions - which is fine, as you can delete one of the partitions and add the free space to the existing partition with the OS.

I'm almost certain you didn't damage anything just from installing Windows - even if you did accidentally install it twice, or interrupted the first attempt. At worst, you didn't let all the necessary files copy to the drive and you'll need to install again. If you don't know how to install Windows, look up a guide with screenshots to assist you. :) It's a very simple process, despite how fearful new users are to it, and Microsoft has continuously improved and streamlined the process, as well as given a cleaner GUI to work with.
