I just recieved my Vista Home Premium upgrade cd from Acer for my laptop, but I would rather use it for a new desktop Im building. Is this possible, because it says its only for use with an Acer laptop????

    Thanks

The setup will check for a Acer bios and it will give an error. Even if it doesnt it is not exactly legal.

It is an OEM copy...so it's stuck with the notebook.

I'd also imagine that the Acer OEM key could be a problem as well (if they are anything like the ones assigned to Dell).

can you uninstall the empowering technology or is it better to use the dvd you burn when you first get your new laptop.to re'install XP.
i have all the app's on another dvd which you also burn when you first get your laptop with the said third party software.

empowering tech just seem's to eat memory.

I took a Toshiba upgrade to Home premium and put it on a IBM Thinkpad T-41 without a problem, Just run the Vista advisor first to check the compatiblity problems with in the programs and hardware. When you load from the CD go to explore on the disk and click on the for Vista upgrade and you should have no problem.
