I need some help. I have a laptop that is capable of running digital audio recording software for music production. I need to optimize my system when I use this program to run processes in the background and get rid of system processes that are not necessary as well as operate witht he harddrive and CPU at full power. However, when I'm running normal apps I want a normal power management scheme with normal connectivity including network Wi-fi, bluetooth etc. (these features are turned off when running Audio apps). Can I manage this by using the USER setup features of Windows XP to control the registry? Or do I have to setup 2 hard-disk partitions and boot to the different configurations? Any advice would be appreciated.

You could just change the power scheme in control panel to 'Always ON' when you want no throttling or power saving features and then switch it to portable when you want to save power.
